- Because of LDT, are we to avoid buying ImageFX, or the products
- of Oregon Research? Should we stay away from Zipperware's shareware
- disks, or Fred Fish (Cronus)? Not deal with mail order houses such
- as Safe Harbor or Software Hut? What about LDT's CD-ROMs and other
- products?
- IMHO, Amazing is providing a service to users AND vendors by
- publishing ads for these products and services. They cannot easily
- check out many of the new products they advertise. I think you
- have to gather information about anything you are going to buy
- from as many sources as you can find. Magazine reviews, the
- newsgroups, ads, other users, dealers (MO and otherwise), calls
- to the manufacturer, etc.
- Can the original poster (dzander) point out other incorrect
- ads in AC? Who exactly is to blame for LDT's failure to deliver
- this product as advertised?
-
- Try calling Paxtron. Ask them if the boards are in stock, how
- long delivery will take. Ask them specific questions about the
- configuration or installation of the board. Try to get a feeling
- about whether the salesperson has direct knowledge of the board.
- There may well be hype and sales pressure, but you might also some
- feeling of confidence that this is a real, available product. On
- the other hand, you may have your suspicions even further aroused
- that something fishy is going on. I won't tell you to trust
- Paxtron (or ANY other vendor), only to search for information
- and decide whether to risk an order. After you do this, let us
- all know how it comes out. Many of us are also thinking about
- those motherboards. Sorry for long, multiple warhead post:-)
